From Greensboro, North Carolina
to Cottageville, South Carolina (2/7/99)

From
Greensboro, North Carolina we traveled down Interstate 85. As we neared
Charlotte, North Carolina, Kent noticed a sign for a NASCAR museum. We
followed the signs and ended up next to the Charlotte Motor Speedway at a
museum called Backing Up Classics, Inc. The children enjoyed the break.
The old cars were fascinating as the children realize they are unique and
old. The shiney paint and different shapes of cars gave the children a
sense that the cars were from another era. There are many nice photos we
took that are in our Photo Album pages.
For lunch we
went to a North Carolina BBQ restaurant. We had the popular North Carolina
shredded pork BBQ sandwich with french fries and onion rings. Cole Slaw
that is referred to as Slaw comes not as a side to the sandwich but comes
in the sandwich. This was a significant challenge for small hands to keep
the fixin's inside the roll without loosing them into their lap. Although
what was served to us was very different from what we expected, everyone
enjoyed their sandwich.
Early evening
we arrived in the "low Country"at Dave and Jackie Sinclair's house. They are dear friends we
have known since we lived in Summerville, South Carolina in 1989. While
Kent was at sea during this time, Kent William became very fond of
"PaPop" since he and Grandma Jackie were our neighbors. All the
children have heard so much about them, they were very happy to meet
Grandma Jackie and PaPop. Grandma Jackie prepared a delicious dinner and
PaPop kept the children busy playing games with him. We were, also, happy
to see Jackie's mother, Grandma Helen. She made us a delicious homemade
cake. Susan, Jackie and Dave's daughter, also visited with us. We were glad to
hear of her engagement to a long time friend, Allen.
Our morning
hours on February 8, Kent was happy to help Jackie get her computer working more
efficiently with Norton Systemworks 2000.
While I write
this Journal entry, we are enroute to Cocoa Beach via a stop in
Jacksonville, Florida. We will visit Karen's Uncle Russ whom she has not
seen in 22 years.
